The GRE consists of three main sections:

- Analytical Writing: Requires writing two essays—an “analyze an issue” essay and an “analyze an argument” essay.
- Verbal Reasoning and Quantitative Reasoning are scored on a scale of 130 to 170 in one-point increments.
- Analytical Writing is scored on a scale of 0 to 6 in half-point increments.
- Scores for each section are reported separately.
- The GRE is offered at authorized testing centers worldwide.
- Test dates are available year-round, and you can register for the GRE online or by phone.
You can take the GRE once every 21 days, up to five times within a continuous rolling 12-month period.
GRE scores are valid for five years from the date of the test.
- Yes, you can cancel or reschedule your GRE test, but fees may apply.
- To cancel or reschedule, you must do so at least four days before your test date.
